Hello! My name is Emily and I am a freelance artist and product designer.
I run a small business where I sell enamel pins, keychains, apparel, plushies, stickers and prints. One of my main goals is to bring joy to fandoms by creating merchandise that suits their tastes. My main inspirations are Y2K trends, shojo and 90's to early 2000's animes, and collecting small trinkets. My art tends to lean more towards a more cutesy style, whereas it may be harder to find such items for older animes or darker themed animes. I also take inspiration from characters and turn them into aesthetic themed drinks which is a big twist and more subtle for those who want a a more lowkey piece of art.
I take much of my influence from Korean music as it is one my main inspirations. I constantly surround myself with music as it provides a sense of familiarity and calmness. I enjoy creating conversations with people as they interpret what the art may mean. They catch little details that relate to the lyrics and theme. I want to present music in a different medium where people can see what I see when I hear these songs.
Another inspiration for me is Japanese animation. My family is originally from Hong Kong and much of the media there is inspired by Japan. My dad would put on Gundam and build little Hamtaro cutouts with me. Watching anime and reading manga while growing up has heavily influenced my style. I often look back and watch shows like Sailor Moon and Inuyasha and see how those animes were products of their time. It brings a great sense of nostalgia. And I want to leave a similar experience on those who see my art. That is why one of my favorite things to draw is taking older animes and redrawing them in my style. My favorite thing is when people see my art and they are like "I love this anime! I grew up watching it!"
Being an artist has allowed me to create my own safe space with others. I'm truly so grateful for every encounter I've had that I get to share my love for these things.
